A SPECIAL EVENT IN THE ILLINOIS STATE MUSEUM CHICAGO GALLERY
Artist Talk: Robert Wapahi with Linda Stabile
Robert Wapahi, Dakota/Santee artist, will discuss his work, and Linda Stabile, author, will discuss her new book, The Storykeeper, with images by Robert Wapahi.
DATE: Thursday, March 4, 2010 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm
Robert Wapahi is a Dakota/Santee artist working in Illinois. He will discuss his artworks including three scratchboard drawings on exhibition in the Illinois State Museum Chicago Gallery’s current exhibition Pathways and Portals. In addition to his individual works he
will be joined by Linda Stabile to discuss his illustrations for her new book, The Storykeeper.
Wapahi entered the world of visual art at the age of thirty-eight. Up until this point he had been an aspiring musician. He discovered that pen and paper were more easily transported than a piano or set of percussion instruments. Wapahi found his reason to draw on a visit
to Chicago and the American Indian Center. Since then, he is responsible for decorating the American Indian Center’s one-hundred room building. Music was Robert Wapahi’s first love, but he has since fallen for visual art.
This event is free to the public. All ages are welcome. The Gallery is wheel-chair accessible.
