The Chicago Cultural Center, a landmark building, is one of the most comprehensive free arts showcases in the United States.  Through collaborative programming, admission-free exhibitions and programs covering a wide range of the performing, visual, and literary arts are presented on practically everyday of the year.   

The Events and Facilities Management Division oversees day-to-day building and facilities management and markets Chicago Cultural Center as an outstanding facility for private events. Labor and set-up needs may be required at Millennium Park, the Chicago Cultural Center and at some off-site program spaces, such as Summer Dance at the Spirit of the Music Garden.    

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under direct supervision, the Production Assistant provides manual labor required and reports to the Supervising Production Assistant and /or team leader. Must be available to work evenings and weekends 

 

Essential Duties AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·    Set-up and break down tables, chairs, equipment, and furniture for events

·    Transport tables, chairs, equipment, furniture, and supplies to and from various department locations

·    Lift and/or move heavy tables, chairs, equipment and furniture

·    Transport equipment and supplies to work sites

·    Perform routine clerical duties as assigned

·    Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required or assigned

Qualifications and Application Requirements

Skills & Qualifications: 

Qualifications, skills & experience

·         Six months of relevant experience in transporting, setting-up, and breaking down tables, chairs, equipment, furniture, and supplies. 

·         Heavy manual lifting and/or moving of equipment are required; be physically capable of performing assigned tasks.

·         Knowledge of a second language would be a plus.

·         Knowledge of proper lifting techniques, general safety precautions, use of hand tools and rules and regulations

·         Ability to learn and practice applicable safety rules and regulations.

·         Ability to comprehend and carryout oral and written instructions.

·         Ability to perform all duties assigned by supervisors in a safe and efficient manner and be willing to work in any job assigned.

·         Ability to work well with others, promote a positive image and be punctual for the assigned shift

·         Must be appropriately dressed at all times including footwear.

·         Must have a good attitude and be courteous with other staff members and the public.

·         Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, high energy environment

·         Ability to work independently with good judgment and attention to detail

·         Ability to effectively identify and communicate issues or problems to management

·         Flexible schedule 

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Physical demands:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk, sit; use hands to fingers or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear. The employee must be able to bend, stoop, pull, push, lift, as well as have overhead extension of arms. Must be able to lift, carry or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. 

Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in a public building and/or outdoors at a downtown city park and thus will be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but at times, can be high. 

 

 

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT:

An applicant must be an actual resident of the city of Chicago.  Proof of residency will be required at the time of application.

 

 

 

SALARY: 10.25/hour
